Does it go by nationality or where I live?
What counts is the country that issued your passport, not where you live or fly from. If you have two passports, enter on the one with better terms and use it for all your bookings.
Can I go to Hong Kong and come back?
Yes. With visa-free entry you can enter more than once, and each entry gives up to 30 days. Hong Kong and Macau count as leaving mainland China.
What should I have at passport control?
Your passport, your onward or return ticket and your hotel booking. They do not always ask, but keep them handy on your phone.
What if I travel in 2027?
The 30-day visa-free entry runs until 31 December 2026 for now. It has been extended before, but there is no new date yet. If you travel in 2027, check here before you buy flights.
